What is group alcohol education?Young people who might have got into trouble with the police for the first time because of drinking or being in possession of alcohol might be send to us by the police to attend an alcohol education group. The police have the right to refer such young people to the Children’s Reporter or refer them to the alcohol education group. The alcohol education group was mainly set up to give young people another chance and educate them on alcohol issues.
So, if you have got into trouble with the police and they send you to attend this group do not see it as a punishment. It’s more an opportunity to help you understand the risks and dangers of drinking in the street and to teach you how to look after yourself and your friends. The groups are usually small, ranging from 3 to 7 people. The age range is 12 to 16. The group runs over 5 weeks, one night a week and each session last 1 hour. At the end of the group the young people who have attended are being awarded a certificate for completing the alcohol education group successfully.
The sessions include videos, fun games, discussions and other activities.
