Education and Training
RCA Trust delivers training and awareness-raising opportunities that equip professionals, organisations and communities with the knowledge, confidence and skills to recognise gambling-related harms, have supportive conversations and provide effective brief interventions.
Methodology
Our training is grounded in a public health approach, recognising that gambling harms exist on a spectrum and that prevention, early intervention, and reducing stigma are key to improving outcomes.
We believe that everyone has a role to play in creating safer, healthier communities, and that increasing awareness across all sectors helps ensure people receive the right support at the right time.
Through our training, we are working to change the narrative around gambling harms by bringing them into everyday conversations across Scotland.
We encourage curiosity, compassion, and open dialogue, creating inclusive learning environments where participants feel comfortable asking questions, challenging perceptions, and building the confidence to respond to gambling harms in a supportive, person-centred way.
Bet You Can Help
The Bet You Can Help Now course uses a public health approach, underpinned by a first aid model and is relevant to anyone that wishes to improve their understanding of gambling-related harms and their impacts on the individual, their loved ones and wider society.
The course provides candidates with an understanding of the nature, concepts and impacts of harmful gambling and gambling related harm, it enables them to identify and signpost affected individuals to sources of reliable information, advice, guidance and support through services delivered via The National Gambling Support Network (NGSN).
The training is made up of 2 main components:
The free course is a 1hr 30 min session that can be delivered face to face (location dependent) or online at a convenient time and covers the following:

Learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of gambling related harms

Learners will have increased confidence in implementing effective screening and interventions with those at risk of gambling related harms

Learners will be aware of and understand the appropriate levels of support available to help and support those affected by gambling related harms
This second component is a full day training session that enables learners to gain a qualification in tackling gambling-related harms accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health. This module is a continuation from Bet You Can Help Now and covers the following:

The prevalence and different perspectives of gambling harms

The identification of gambling harms and specialist support

Treatment and signposting available to help those in need
In order to gain the award, there is a multiple choice question paper at the end of this training day.

Bet You Can Help Level 2 Award: Tackling Gambling Related Harm

Battling the Odds
Those within the Armed Forces Community are 8 times more likely to experience harms from gambling due to various factors such as traumatic events or difficulty adjusting to civilian life after serving.
With this in mind we created Battling the Odds: Armed Forces Gambling Support Network to help support people part of the armed forces community.

Workplace Charter
The Workplace Charter provides a framework for action to help employers and staff build good practice around health and wellbeing in the workplace. By recognising the impact gambling harms can have on employees, and by providing education and support, organisations that sign the charter commit to creating a more informed, supportive, and healthier working environment.
