It has been more than a generation since the Men’s Scotland national Football team graced the World Cup and since that time the world has changed dramatically. While we wish Scotland all the best in the World Cup, the change in format, time differences, normalisation of gambling and sports, along with the opportunity to gamble across a range of different media, people should be aware that gambling comes at a cost.
Late-night games, drinking, increased opportunities to gamble, heightened risk-taking, first-goal-scorer predictions, workplace sweepstakes, and widespread advertising can all encourage betting behaviour, increasing the risk of financial, emotional, and gambling-related harm.
Enjoy the game for what it is not what it can give you, set your limits, gamble what you can afford to lose and try not to drink too much. A hangover, headache and waking up skint is probably not a good look for anyone.
Help is available, recovery is possible and you are not alone, even at two in the morning.
